Leading the global energy transition

Fortescue Energy is a global green energy company committed to producing zero-carbon green hydrogen from 100 percent renewable sources.

Green hydrogen is a zero-emission fuel, that when used produces nothing but water. It is the practical and implementable solution that will help revolutionise the way we power our planet: decarbonising heavy industry and creating jobs globally.

Fortescue is leading the green industrial revolution, developing technology solutions for hard-to-decarbonise industries, while building a global portfolio of renewable green hydrogen and green ammonia projects to produce 15 million tonnes per year of green hydrogen by 2030, rising to 50 million tonnes per year in the decade thereafter.

Fortescue is also leading the world effort to decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors and is responsible for the decarbonisation of one of the biggest resources companies in the world by 2030 – our parent company Fortescue Metals Group.

Oakajee Green Hydrogen Hub, Mid West

Fortescue’s proposed Oakajee Green Hydrogen Hub is a renewable energy generation and hydrogen production project.

The Oakajee Green Hydrogen Hub is planned to be initially capable of producing approximately 250,000 tonnes per annum of green hydrogen, converting it to liquid green ammonia at the Oakajee Strategic Industrial Area (SIA) for global export.

At full capacity, the proposed project will be capable of producing approximately one million tonnes per annum of green hydrogen.

Fortescue has been allocated 250 hectares of prime land at the Oakajee SIA, which demonstrates the WA Government’s support for this project.

Our focus is to identify the most promising generation areas and understand risk factors while conducting the necessary technical studies to make the project a success.

Fortescue & communities

Fortescue has scoured the globe for the most attractive locations to produce green hydrogen and found some of the best here in our own backyard.

We assess potential projects based on a range of factors including their power generation potential, the level of government support, and a region’s ability to deliver a project at a global scale. Fortescue believes the Mid West will be a perfect location for a large-scale green hydrogen hub.

The Oakajee Green Hydrogen Hub will be developed in accordance with international and Australian industry best practice.

Fortescue will be working closely with landowners, First Nations groups, industry, local and regional community members, education and training centres, and businesses to understand the most appropriate development for the Mid West.

We have been engaging with community stakeholders to share information on our proposed project, including our aspirations for the region and our Values.

Fortescue will continue and transparently engage and consult with community stakeholders to understand their needs, concerns and priorities.

Landowners, First Nations people and the wider community all play a key role in the design process for this project. We want your feedback so please get in touch.

We're leading the green industrial revolution

We’re developing the technologies to decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors (like our iron ore operations) while building a global portfolio of renewable energy projects.

Green iron and green steel presents a huge opportunity for the iron ore industry and we are working hard to ensure we are at the forefront of technologies being developed in this regard.

By harnessing the world’s renewable energy resources to produce renewable electricity, green hydrogen, green ammonia and other green industrial products, we’ll help our planet step beyond fossil fuels.
